Sunday 12 July 2026
Leader: Brandon Holman
Three of us caught the 8:26 am train from Paraparaumu. The train staff, being a Sunday, allowed 6 bikes in the carriage, as 3 other folk were taking bikes also. We alighted at Wellington station and proceeded to bike back to our homes on the coast. It was a very cold morning but with brilliant sun.
From Wellington, this was our route: Bike lane via Thorndon Quay to Hutt Rd. Bike lane up Ngauranga Gorge. Through Johnsonville and on to Middleton Rd. At Boscobel Lane, Tawa, we took the bike path alongside the railway past Tawa to Porirua Station. Over motorway on The Ramp (bike path) and on bike path past Adrenaline Forest, then Papakowhai Road (wide bike path under construction).
We followed signs under, then over, bridge at Mana esplanade and to bike path by marina and through Ngati Toa domain to Plimmerton. A bit of road, then subway under Plimmerton Station. Bike path through domain to Ulric St. Bike path off Northpoint St to Pukerua Bay. Stay on bike path mostly alongside old State Highway 1 (now HW 59) to Ames St, Paekakariki. Followed bike signs north through Paekakariki to QE Park at end of Tilly Rd. Smooth track signpost through QE Park. Right on Poplar Ave to bike path alongside Highway 1 to Paraparaumu.
We did stop at the Orange Café in Plimmerton for coffee, and we were in no particular hurry. It took me about 3½ hours to get home which is close to the Waikanae river, even though my battery died at Kapiti Road.
Those on the trip were:
Brandon Holman, Yingjun Shelton, Stuart Allen
